Discover the Emotional Tale of "News of the World" in Song 🎶🤠

🎬 About the Film – News of the World (2020)

News of the World is a 2020 American Western drama directed by Paul Greengrass, based on the bestselling novel by Paulette Jiles. Set five years after the Civil War, the story follows Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks), a widowed veteran who travels town to town reading news to isolated communities. His life changes when he encounters Johanna (Helena Zengel), a young girl raised by the Kiowa tribe, whom he reluctantly agrees to escort across dangerous terrain to her surviving relatives.

The film explores themes of redemption, identity, and connection in a fractured America, with powerful performances and stunning cinematography. Helena Zengel received critical acclaim for her role, and the film was nominated for four Academy Awards.

Lyrics: I roll into town on a weathered wheel, With dust on my boots and tales to reveal. Ten cents a story, I summon the crowd, Reading the world to faces worn proud. But tonight in the silence, I’m not alone— A frightened young girl, no place called home. Kiowa tongue and a faraway stare, Caught between worlds, her soul stripped bare. My golden hair holds the storm’s wild grace, An orphan twice lost, no familiar face. They call me Johanna, but Cicada I’ll be, A song in the wind, a heart running free. I dream of the plains where the Kiowa roam, Of starlit nights and a buffalo’s home. But they pull me far from the fire and flame, I am a child with no kin to name. So I ride, and I ramble, with news of the world, On roads full of longing, through sorrow unfurled. Pages and pistols, the stories we hold, A girl without family, a wanderer old. Out where the prairie meets twilight and sky, We’re searching for somewhere to lay down our sighs. We flee from the shadows of men drunk on hate, Bullets in chambers, I trust to my fate. Through dust clouds and danger, I learn how to see— That kin isn’t blood, it’s who rides next to me. Old Farley’s got power, his heart cold as stone, He feeds me his lies, but I craft my own. Of miners and pain, their voices unheard— Truth rides like thunder beneath every word. My hands once held rifles, now pages instead, But echoes of gunfire still ring in my head. Major once soldier, now teller of truth— Still haunted by shadows, still yearning for youth. I hum to the stars that once sang me to sleep, Their light in the dark, a promise I keep. No mother, no father, no language to trust, But I follow the wind through the canyon dust. So I ride, and I ramble, with news of the world, On roads full of longing, through sorrow unfurled. Pages and pistols, the stories we hold, A girl without family, a wanderer old. Out where the prairie meets twilight and sky, We’re searching for somewhere to lay down our sighs. Through sandstorms and silence, through hunger and night, We follow the glow of a dim lantern’s light. Of miners and pain, gift, a horse swift and bold, My spirit runs free on the trails we behold. By Wichita’s rivers, through canyons of stone, We carve out a path where no one’s alone. I sing to the stars I once called my own, A bridge to the past, where I won’t be alone. But goodbye is a shadow that haunts every mile, I leave her with kin, yet I ache with denial. My Ellen, forgive me, for sins of the war— The battles I fought left me broken and sore. I ride back through thunder, through grief’s bitter rain, She’s tied to a post, bound by sorrow and shame. I say, “Come with me, we’re a family now, We’re not what we’ve lost, but the love we allow.” So I ride, and I ramble, with news of the world, Through valleys of sorrow, with hope now unfurled. Pages and pistols, the stories we hold, A girl now my daughter, a wanderer bold. Out where the prairie meets promise and sky, We’ve found something real that will never say goodbye. I stand in the lamplight and read to the hall, With Johanna beside me, no longer so small. Two souls made a family, as strange as it seems— The news of the world, and the power of dreams. From Dallas to Red River, our story will soar, A father, a daughter, forever once more.
