Echoes of Valor: The Untold Stories of Gettysburg
About the Battle: From July 1 to 3, 1863, the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, became the site of the bloodiest battle in the American Civil War. Union General George Meade and Confederate General Robert E. Lee clashed in a three-day ordeal that would change the course of history. Over 50,000 men were killed, wounded, or missing, leaving behind one of the most solemn and remembered battlefields in American history.
Map Note: Gettysburg is located in southern Pennsylvania, near the Maryland border, approximately 80 miles north of Washington, D.C.
This ballad tells the story of Gettysburg through the voices of the soldiers, capturing the horror, sacrifice, and lasting echoes of one of America's defining battles.
"Gettysburg, Gettysburg, history's heavy crown, the cost of freedom on this hallowed ground."
LYRIC:
Dust and smoke fill the summer air,
Cannons roar as drums declare.
Two armies meet with steely glares,
Gettysburg, where fates ensnare.
Meade and Lee, generals brave and bold,
Fifty thousand stories yet untold.
Three days of hell, blood runs deep,
In Pennsylvania fields where spirits sleep.
Oh, the Battle of Gettysburg,
Civil War's bloodiest curse.
Brother against brother, blue and gray,
Changing history on those July days.
Pickett's Charge on Cemetery Ridge,
Thousands fall as bullets fly.
Union holds; the tide has turned,
Lee's invasion burns and dies.
Seven thousand souls lost to the fight,
Thirty-three thousand wounded day and night.
Fathers, sons, and brothers fell,
Their dreams now silent where they dwell.
Oh, the Battle of Gettysburg,
Civil War's bloodiest curse.
Brother against brother, blue and gray,
Changing history on those July days.
Gettysburg, Gettysburg, history's heavy crown,
The cost of freedom on this hallowed ground.
The Army of Northern Virginia retreats south in disarray;
The fields of Gettysburg stand silent,
Echoes of battle fade away.
The ground remembers what men forget;
Their blood has a price that we still regret.
